There is something incredibly special about photographing a couple in a place that already feels like home.
For Colleen and Greg, their engagement session in Newport, Rhode Island wasn’t about checking off iconic landmarks (although we did that too 😉). It was about weaving together the places that shaped their story; familiar paths, meaningful views, and quiet corners only locals truly know.
And in true Newport fashion, autumn showed up beautifully.
We began their engagement session at a serene little rocky beach near Colleen’s family cottage… one of those tucked-away coastal spots you only know about if you’ve spent summers here.
The air was crisp, the tide calm, and somehow we had the entire stretch of shoreline to ourselves. The stillness of it all made the moment feel intimate, like Newport had paused just for them.
Colleen and Greg were effortless together. The way he tucked her hair behind her ear. The way she leaned into him without even thinking. Their laughter carried across the rocks, blending with the soft rhythm of the waves.
It was understated. Authentic. Completely them.
From quiet and intimate, we moved into cinematic.
As the sun began to dip, we made our way to Castle Hill Lighthouse; one of Newport’s most iconic coastal backdrops. And if you’ve ever seen sunset there, you know it never disappoints.
This is where the session shifted into something truly epic.
Colleen changed into a regal, flowing wine-colored gown that caught the wind in the most breathtaking way. Against the golden sky and sweeping ocean cliffs, she looked absolutely stunning. The richness of the dress against the soft coastal tones of autumn felt both bold and romantic… timeless but dramatic.
And Greg? He could not take his eyes off her.
The lighthouse stood quietly behind them as they moved through golden hour, windswept, glowing, completely wrapped up in each other. It felt like a scene from a film.
And then… we ended where every true coastal love story should.
At the beach.
Now listen… it doesn’t matter how late in the season it is. If there’s sand nearby, your girl is going to find a way to get her toes in it. 😂
The air was cooler, the light softer, but that didn’t stop us. Shoes came off. Feet hit the sand. And suddenly the session felt playful again, relaxed, joyful, and full of movement.
There’s something about ending an engagement session at the shoreline that just feels right. Maybe it’s the symbolism. Maybe it’s the freedom. Or maybe it’s just that Newport has a way of making everything feel a little more magical by the water.
What I loved most about Colleen and Greg’s engagement session wasn’t just the scenery… it was the intention behind it.
As locals, they didn’t just choose Newport because it’s beautiful (although it absolutely is). They chose locations that meant something to them, places layered with memory, history, and heart.
And that’s what makes an engagement session unforgettable.
Whether it’s a quiet rocky beach near a family cottage, golden hour at Castle Hill Lighthouse, or simply getting your toes in the sand one more time before winter arrives — the best sessions are always the ones that feel like you.
Colleen and Greg, thank you for trusting us to tell your story in a place that already holds so much of it.
