Laura and Greg had a beautiful New England nautical themed wedding at The Barker Tavern.
Our 2019 wedding season kicked off with Laura and Greg. We were so excited to head to Newport RI, for their engagement session. While planning the perfect engagement session, Laura and I talked about how meaningful Newport was to them. Early in their relationship they spent a long weekend away together in Newport. It was early November, it was chilly but they enjoyed exploring the coastal city and visiting popular attractions like the Breakers. Somewhere between Bellevue Ave and Bannister’s Wharf Laura and Greg began to fall in love. The day of their session, it was a brisk winter day, we decided to capture some fun candid style photos along the picturesque Newport Cliff Walk. We later made our way to downtown where we finished their session with a gorgeous sunset photo.
Greg proposed to Laura where their story began at the location of their first date… Tony Cs at Assembly Row in Somerville MA. Laura had a feeling something was going to happen because Greg was acting a little differently. Greg asked Laura to go for a walk down by the river, where he popped the question. Greg was so nervous that he actually forgot to get down on his knee… that didn’t stop Laura from excitedly saying “yes!”.
There is an old saying here in New England, that says… “if you don’t like the weather wait a minute.” That saying couldn’t have rang more true, than on the day of Laura and Greg’s wedding. The morning of the wedding, a blanket of clouds spanned the horizon, the air was thick and there seemed to be a chance of rain. As we arrived to Scituate the the sun began to burn through the clouds, and by the time we headed to the Scituate Light House for their first look, it was a bright and sunny afternoon. It was a perfect day for a coast wedding.
We arrived to The Inn at Scituate Harbor where Laura was getting ready with her mother, sister and a few close friends. Their bridal suite had a nice view of the Harbor. The girls enjoyed a few minutes of relaxation, sipped on mimosas, and had their final touches made to their hair and makeup. Laura’s wedding dress was a beautiful Maggie Sottero, a-line lace gown. Her look was completed with a pair of sparkly Kate Spade slip on sneakers. Laura’s mother and sister Mary (her Maid of Honor) helped her into her fully buttoned back dress.
Lauras’ father Bill could not wait to see his little girl in her dress for the first time. As she walked into the room his reaction did not disappoint, Laura was beaming.
After having a fun morning with his seven groomsmen, Greg headed down to the Scituate Lighthouse to prepare for his First Look with Laura.
As Laura pulled up to the Lighthouse, she quickly changed into her rose gold Kate Spade sneakers. She made her way up the rocky coast to see her future husband, who was eagerly waiting her arrival. Laura took Greg’s breathe away. We love this portion of the day… there is something magical about a private First Look. Seeing Laura melt into Greg’s arms and watching his expression as he saw his beautiful bride for the first time was the best! At one point they even began to dance.
The happy couple decided to have their ceremony and reception at the historic Barker Tavern in Scituate. The ceremony took place in the Williams Room in front of an impressive 8′ stone fireplace. Light pored in from both sides of the room that featured floor to ceiling windows that overlook the gardens.
As guests began finding their seats, there was a buzz of excitement in the air. Laura walked down the aisle beside her father, as she took Greg’s hand she kissed her dad on the cheek. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Laura and Greg exchanged their heartfelt vows.
The couple spared no expense when it came to bringing the ocean to their guest for their nautical themed wedding. The raw oyster bar, and chucking was the perfect touch.
Can we talk about Laura and Greg’s amazing wedding cake. This multi-layer cake was created by Konditor Meister. The cake featured a sea foam green ombre buttercream frosting, and was topped with starfish to tie their nautical theme together.
Is it really even a party if the Groom doesn’t grab the mic and rap a Will Smith song? Greg sang Will Smith’s “Welcome to Miami,” to Laura and their guests went wild. He was pretty awesome! From that moment on there dance floor was packed.
We were so thankful to have shared in Laura and Greg’s day. Being able to get to know our couples on such a personal level and witness their love story first hand is such a blessing! We wish Laura and Greg many happy years to come… congrats to the new Mr. and Mrs.
